Doubting Jordan Lotomba before he’s even played for Celtic is crazy

Jordan Lotomba is one of several signings to have arrived at Celtic in the last few days, and it’s fair to say that the announcement of the Swiss international right back hasn’t been warmly received by a section of the Celtic support…

The 27 year old has a decent pedigree in the game, having starred in his homeland with both Lausanne Sport and Young Boys, winning three consecutive Swiss titles with the latter.

His form with Young Boys won him a £7 million move to French side Nice, spending four years in the French Riviera before signing for Feyenoord.

The right back also has extensive experience in Europe, having played in both the Champions League and Europa league group stage for the Dutch side. Jordan Lotomba also has eight caps for the Swiss national side, so he’s certainly not lacking in quality, and clearly has the credentials required to be a Celtic player.

The reason for the negativity surrounding the signing of the right back, is down to a small number of social media posts from Feyenoord supporters who claim to be glad to see the back of him. You could gather a similar number of negative posts on any player moving clubs, take for instance Reo Hatate as a recent example.

Sure, the Dutch fans will have seen more of him than any of us, but he’s starting at Celtic with a clean slate, and deserves to be given a chance before any of us can even consider judging him.

Lotomba who has been signed to add some much needed depth in the right back area due to the injury sustained to Alistair Johnston, is also seen as a key player by Manager Martin O’Neill, who showered praise on his new addition.

The Veteran Irishman said: “I’m really pleased to bring Jordan to Celtic. He is a quick, strong and experienced player.

“He is adaptable, can play on both sides of the pitch and he is very comfortable on the ball, so I think we are bringing another quality player to the club.”
