Douglas Luiz has decided to focus on building his career at Juventus after rejecting an approach from Everton for his signature, according to Calciomercato.
The midfielder joined Juventus in the summer of 2024 from Aston Villa as one of the most highly regarded midfielders in European football, and the Bianconeri were delighted to secure his services.
Luiz was one of the midfielders Juventus added to their squad alongside Khephren Thuram and Teun Koopmeiners. However, both Luiz and the Dutchman struggled to meet expectations during their first season with the club.
At the end of the 2024/2025 campaign, Luiz decided to leave Juventus and spent the two halves of last season on loan at Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa. Despite those opportunities, he remained unsettled, and neither club agreed to make his move permanent.
The Brazilian has now returned to Turin and has already made an impression by scoring a stunning goal in one of Juventus’ pre-season matches. His return could provide him with an opportunity to play an important role in the squad this season.
Luiz is determined to make that opportunity count, and the report states that he rejected a move to Everton after David Moyes wanted to bring him to the Merseyside club.
The midfielder appreciates Everton’s interest and the confidence shown in him, but he has decided to remain at Juventus and fight for his future instead of seeking another temporary exit. The possibility of leaving on loan once again was not enough to convince him to move away from Turin.
Juventus will now assess Luiz during the season and determine whether he can become the influential midfielder they expected when they signed him. The player’s decision to stay suggests he is ready to prove his value and establish himself as an important member of the squad.
