Dream goal and sending off help seal home win over Sturm!

Exciting end brings three vital points

We gained three hard-fought big points! In Matchday 7 of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga, our lads really stepped up the pace in the final phase, following an intense first half, to secure a 3–0 home win over SK Sturm Graz. Now, an extra-long international break awaits us before we host AC Milan in the UEFA Europa League for our next home game.

22' & 24' – Early efforts without breakthrough

After a cautious opening phase where we struggled to consistently break out of our own half, we noticeably picked up the pace around the 20-minute mark. A blocked shot from Konate and a follow-up effort from Veratschnig marked our first real signs of attacking intent (22‘), before a clever corner routine saw Konate flick the ball against the outside of the post, narrowly missing an opening goal (24‘).

26' & 38' – Fortune for our keeper

A particularly dangerous moment occurred at the other end when Christian Zawieschitzky misjudged a deep cross, allowing Seidl - positioned behind him - a chance to give the visitors the lead. The Sturm player from Salzburg managed to get a shot off towards goal, but Boma and Schmid came to their goalkeeper's rescue, clearing the danger effectively. Towards the end of the first half, the brief spell of chances gave way to a scrappy, hard-fought contest, and Kayombo’s wayward finish following a solo run (38‘) stood out as the most dangerous moment of an otherwise uneventful remainder of the half.

46' – Quiet restart

Rough challenges, which the referee allowed to play on, characterized the opening stages of the second half. Moments of quality were initially scarce, as our attacking efforts were repeatedly disrupted by fouls from the visitors.

72', 76' & 77' – The big breakthrough!

We could finally celebrate. Camara surged forward down the left flank, cut into the penalty area, and unleashed a late shot that the visiting defence managed to block collectively. However, Veratschnig deflected Mazurek’s follow-up effort from distance into the net, giving us the lead (72‘). Shortly after, Sturm’s Heil was sent off after receiving a second yellow card within the span of a few minutes - first for dissent, then for a tactical foul (76‘). We capitalised on the opportunity and promptly extended our lead to 2–0: as Schmid took the resulting free kick, Boma made a perfect run, and headed the ball home for our second goal (77').

83' – The cherry on top!

With a numerical advantage and two goals behind us, we made it clear to the Graz side that there was nothing for them here - quite the opposite! We still had one more highlight in store: Kitano crossed into the box, and what followed was sheer magic: Camara attempted a scissor kick, connected beautifully with the ball, and hammered it in off the crossbar for 3–0! Our home win was secured in incredible style.

Now comes a three-week international break. Our next home game? None other than the Europa League match against AC Milan on Thursday 15 October at 18:45 CEST - tickets are available as part of a four-match package!

Views

That was a very difficult match! Sturm made things very tough for us in the first half, and we weren't fresh enough - mentally or physically - but the reaction in the second half was good, and the substitutions really helped us. You need that momentum. It was a real grind, but playing against teams like this requires a different approach - and my team executed that brilliantly!
