Barcelona are poised to lose La Masia midfielder Dro, with an overseas club prepared to pay his €6m release clause. Hansi Flick had planned around him for the future and has been left deeply disappointed.
Several European heavyweights have moved for the 18-year-old. According to Fabrizio Romano, Paris Saint-Germain are among them and there is a firm offer on the table.
Dro turned 18 on the flight home from Saudi Arabia after the Supercopa triumph. A few days later he informed Flick of his intention to leave, a turning point in their relationship.
Flick had integrated the Galician into first-team dynamics and given him competitive minutes, but he has now removed the midfielder from senior training. The aim is to avoid injury risk and reflect that the player is no longer fully focused on Barcelona’s project. Flick later said it was the biggest disappointment of his life.
Dro made his league debut against Real Sociedad, Barcelona’s next opponents. He started, played the first half and was replaced at the interval in a match that demanded a change of pace to chase the game.
With a renewal pending, the player has chosen a sporting and financial proposal far above his current terms. Barcelona will bank an unexpected fee, while accepting the risk that he blossoms away from the Camp Nou.
Signed in summer 2022 from Val Miñor de Nigrán, he rose from a quiet prospect to a first-team footballer in two years. His exit has revived the debate over retaining academy talent amid a tight economy and fierce competition. The decision is firm and should be resolved within hours or days, and his departure is already considered a fact.
