Alexandre Dujeux has taken charge at Lorient with an emphasis on continuity after his June arrival, although the squad still needs reinforcing.
According to L'Équipe, the Interceltic Festival around Le Moustoir meant Lorient hosted Angers 15 kilometres away in Inzinzac-Lochrist, with Gaelic football and bagpipes framing a rustic pre-season scene. Crowds lined the rail as much as the stands.
It was their first real test of the summer after four wins over lower-division opposition. They finally faced Ligue 1 opponents in Angers.
The match ended 1-2 and the performance was unconvincing, though Dujeux suggested it could yet prove a useful defeat.
The former Angers coach is following in the footsteps of Olivier Pantaloni, whose assistant he was for a long spell. Continuity is the watchword, but shoring up the squad remains on the agenda.
