Behind the scenes at FC Bayern, intensive discussions are continuing about the sporting management. In the meantime, there are apparently critical voices within the supervisory board regarding the current constellation with Max Eberl and Christoph Freund

Following the Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, extensive internal analyses are continuing at FC Bayern. The record champions‘ supervisory board also met on Tuesday. However, the future of sporting director Max Eberl is not said to have been an official item on the agenda

According to the report, the 52-year-old’s future is not expected to become serious until the next meeting in August, when the summer transfer window will be included in the evaluation of his work

According to the report, one point in particular is currently viewed critically internally: the profiles of Max Eberl and sporting director Christoph Freund are too similar, which is why the question is increasingly being asked within the club as to whether FC Bayern actually needs both managers in the long term

Accordingly, there are already internal discussions about alternative structures within the sporting management

According to Sport BILD, one possible constellation is a model in which CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen works more closely with Christoph Freund in the future – should things not continue with Eberl

Decision probably not until the summer

However, no concrete decisions have yet been made. SPORT1 had previously reported that the future issues surrounding Dreesen, Eberl and Freund had not yet been officially discussed at the most recent meeting. The contracts of all three managers currently run until 2027

According to the club’s statutes, however, extensions to such contracts may only be officially decided one year before they expire, which is why the supervisory board around Herbert Hainer and Uli Hoeneß apparently wants to deliberately take their time to make further decisions

The coming weeks are therefore likely to be particularly important for Max Eberl. The sporting director is currently working intensively on several transfer projects for the summer. Bayern are still looking at players such as Anthony Gordon, Charles De Ketelaere and Kennet Eichhorn

According to the report, how successful the transfer window ends up being could play a decisive role in the evaluation of Eberl’s work

In any case, the most recent supervisory board meeting reportedly focused on the club’s strategic direction and squad planning for the coming season.
