Manchester United has been home to some of the world’s fiercest strikers in the past, but they have struggled to find the back of the net in recent seasons.
After scoring just 44 goals in 38 Premier League games last season, the Red Devils signed Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko this summer to address their goalscoring difficulties.
The highly rated Slovenian striker has taken some time to settle at the Theatre of Dreams, scoring twice in nine appearances across all competitions.
Sesko has already shown promising signs but that hasn’t stopped the English giants from eyeing further additions to their attack.
Ruben Amorim’s side have scored the second-lowest number of goals among the Premier League’s top ten clubs after eight games this season.
Only Sunderland (9) have scored fewer than United’s 11 goals among the top half of the table so far, while Manchester City have already found the back of the net 17 times in the league.
The Portuguese head coach, understandably, is seeking improvements in attack, and a new striker could also be on the agenda in 2026. Recent reports suggest that the Red Devils are considering a move for Juventus’ Dusan Valhovic next year.
With Joshua Zirkzee’s future uncertain, the Premier League giants are looking to sign a new face to challenge Sesko. The Serbian’s contract expires next summer, and he has emerged as an option. However, United are not the only club pursuing the former Fiorentina striker.
According to Tuttojuve, Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Vlahovic in 2026. The 25 year old has scored four goals in nine games across competitions for the Bianconeri this season, although only two of them were starts.
The situation has sparked interest from several clubs across the continent, with United, Chelsea and Barcelona also in the running.
The player has yet to sign a new deal with the Italian giants, further fuelling speculation about his future. The Red Devils are expected to keep a close eye on developments at Turin and are unlikely to give up without a fight.
However, there is an element of risk associated with the move, given how strikers arriving from Serie A in recent years have struggled to settle at the Theatre of Dreams.
Rasmus Hojlund failed to live up to expectations in the Premier League but has regained his form since returning to Italy this summer to join Napoli on loan. Zirkzee’s struggles tell a similar story. United, however, will be hoping that Vlahovic is the one who breaks the curse, especially as they can sign him for free in 2026.
