Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche says he encouraged Omari Hutchinson to put any talk of transfer fees aside and not to be concerned following a difficult start at the club.

The 22-year-old, who has made just one start since joining Forest from Ipswich Town in the summer for a club-record £37.5m, played a key role in the 3-1 comeback victory over Leeds United, assisting Morgan Gibbs-White and winning the penalty for the third goal.

“Credit to him. I’ve just praised him, because he came in and sort of met myself and Steve Stone,” Dyche explained. “Steve Stone isn’t a bad player, a different kind than Omari. But a very good wide player, played for England.

“So I said, look, you’ve got good people here. [Ian] Woan is there as well, of course. And I said, don’t expect everything to be just like that. I said, forget about the price tags and all that. There’s nothing for you to worry about. That’s just the modern industry. He’s still quite young and he’s learning about playing in the Premier League.”

Hutchinson, like the 11 other additions this summer, have had a turbulent start to life in Nottingham, having seen both Nuno Espírito Santo and Ange Postecoglou depart.

The former Chelsea attacker was also omitted from Forest’s Europa League squad, leaving him to watch from the stands as the team suffered defeats to Midtjylland and drew with Real Betis and Sturm Graz.

But Dyche is determined to show Hutchinson that there is a welcoming environment for him, supporting the young player as he continues to adapt to the demands of the division.

Dyche continued: “I said, look, you’ve got time. Just keep doing what you’re doing. Train right, work hard, look after yourself, and most of all, enjoy it. He came on and I thought he was terrific.”
