Dzsenifer Marozsan ruled out of Champions League final & Euro 2022 with ACL injury | OneFootball

Lyon and Germany midfielder Dzsenifer Marozsan will miss the Champions League final and Euro 2022 after suffering an ACL rupture in her right knee while on international duty last month.

Marozsan, who has won four Champions League titles with Lyon since joining the club in 2016, sustained the injury while in action for Germany against Serbia in a World Cup qualifier.

The 30-year-old underwent tests upon returning to Lyon, which confirmed an ACL rupture. She underwent surgery this week and is expected to be sidelined for around six months.

Having already missed Lyon’s Champions League semi-final victory over Paris Saint-Germain, Marozsan is therefore not likely to return to action until November, which also means missing the start of the 2022/23 club season.

It is a bitter blow for the player personally and her club that she won’t be involved in the Champions League later this month as Lyon take on Barcelona in a titanic clash in Turin. She also stood to be an important player for Germany looking to claim a ninth European Championship title this summer.

The playmaker also saw her 2019 World Cup campaign cut short due to injury after breaking her toe during Germany's opening match against China.

Marozsan was a Euro 2013 winner with Germany in the early years of her international career and has played at further major international tournaments in 2015, 2017 and 2019, in addition to helping her country win an Olympic gold medal in 2016.

Germany are still among the favourites to win Euro 2022 but are pitted against Spain, Denmark and Finland in a tough group and have not had the same impact on the international stage in the last few years, having failed to get beyond the quarter-finals at their last two tournaments.
