After a long period of suffering, Jamal Musiala is working hard on his comeback at FC Bayern. Now the international is even making an early start, with a clear goal in mind.
The 22-year-old will be back on the pitch just one day before the official start of Munich training. According to kicker, Musiala will begin his preparation with individual sessions on 2 January – although the team is not scheduled to return until 3 January. The reason for this is the training backlog that the attacking player still has to make up for after his long break. Most recently, he fought his way back step by step after breaking his fibula and suffering a serious ankle injury in July.
Medical tests are initially planned for 3 January at Säbener Straße. Team training will then begin a day later, with Musiala also expected to return to full training according to kicker. Head coach Vincent Kompany was without several players for the 4-0 win against Heidenheim at the end of the year. He expects to have an almost complete squad for the start of the new year. Only Nicolas Jackson is likely to be missing as he is away at the Africa Cup.

However, Kompany had previously put on the brakes. „It will take time. I don’t want to say whether it will take a game or a month. It just needs the time it takes. We have to accompany that. The fact that he is back is already very positive!“ said Kompany about the expectations of Musiala’s comeback. The coach also cautiously addressed Musiala’s return to team training: „Good! Of course, you can immediately feel the difference when a boy has to train alone and then is allowed to be back with the group. That will be a positive story for us in 2026. At the moment, it was great for his feeling, and we can expect a lot from Jamal from next year.“
The exceptional talent still has some time until his next possible competitive match. On 6 January, Bayern will play their only friendly this winter at Red Bull Salzburg. Things will then get serious on 11 January, when VfL Wolfsburg come to the Allianz Arena for the start of the second half of the season.
It remains to be seen whether Musiala will be back in the squad by then, but his current extra shifts show that the 22-year-old is doing everything he can to get back on track as soon as possible.
