Jamal Musiala has finally returned to team training at FC Bayern this week, but despite his return to the squad, coach Vincent Kompany does not want to rush things just yet
After a five-month enforced break due to his fractured fibula and ankle dislocation, which he suffered in the Club World Cup quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain at the beginning of July, Musiala was back on the training pitch with parts of the team this week
When asked what impression the exceptional player made on his return, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany replied on the DAZN microphone: „Good! Of course, you can immediately feel the difference when a youngster has to train on his own and is then allowed to be part of the group again. That will be a positive story for us in 2026. For now, it was great for his feeling and we can expect a lot from Jamal from next year.“
However, Musiala’s return to team training does not mean that he is fit to play again. In his first training session, he only completed the warm-up and simple passing exercises. Tackles or even real game forms were still taboo
Musiala could make his full return to team training from 3 January, when Munich come out of the winter break. The second half of the season kicks off against VfL Wolfsburg on 11 January. Given Kompany’s statements, it is rather doubtful that Musiala will be back in the squad by then
When asked about his protégé’s comeback date, he said: „It will take time. I don’t want to say whether it will take one game or a month. It just needs the time it takes. We have to see it through. The fact that he is back is already very positive!“
So Munich don’t want to rush things and don’t want to take any risks like they did with Hiroki Ito, who suffered the same injury again during his comeback game after breaking his metatarsal. This is exactly what they want to avoid with Musiala.
