Tourbillon Stadium: a unique view from the stands

We headed to Sion to experience an FC Sion match at the beginning of the 2026/27 season.

FC Sion plays its home matches at Tourbillon Stadium, an iconic venue in Switzerland known for the spectacular views from the stands. Behind the home supporters' stand, you can enjoy a beautiful mountain landscape with a basilica in the background.

There are also several viewpoints from the surrounding hills and Tourbillon Castle, offering a great elevated view of the stadium. We'll tell you more about this in a future article. Head to the Stadium Traveller page dedicated to Sion's stadium to find out more.

Enjoying the local speciality: raclette

Sion is located in the Swiss canton of Valais, so the local speciality is naturally available at the stadium: Valais raclette!

Head to the fan zone in front of the West Stand at Tourbillon Stadium. Inside, you'll find large tables and drink stands – and, most importantly, you'll smell the unmistakable aroma of melted cheese!

FC Sion offers two raclette options:

  • CHF 5 for a tray with one potato, a generous slice of melted raclette cheese, pickles and onions.
  • CHF 10 for a raclette sandwich with ham, pickles and onions.

It's a real tradition in Sion, with many supporters coming to enjoy their raclette at every match.

And most importantly, raclette is available all year round! We tried it in temperatures of 32°C – and we can confirm, it gets our seal of approval!

Other local specialities to try at stadiums

Every country has its own stadium food traditions: fries in Belgium, wurst or currywurst in Germany, pipas (sunflower seeds) in Spain, pies in the UK… and more and more clubs are going one step further by offering local or regional specialities.

One example is Racing Club de Strasbourg at Stade de la Meinau, where you can enjoy Alsatian specialities such as tarte flambée, knackwurst, pretzels and spätzle.

In Brittany, and more specifically at Roazhon Park, home of Stade Rennais, you can try the famous galette-saucisse.

Sion therefore offers one of the most unusual meals you can enjoy at a football stadium. If you know of any other unusual stadium dishes worth discovering, feel free to share them with us on Stadium Traveller's social media channels. And if you're visiting Switzerland, don't hesitate: between the spectacular views from the stands and the raclette, it's definitely worth trying!
