Ederson has signed a new Atalanta contract to June 2031 after Manchester United abandoned a €45m move.

The sale had been agreed, including add-ons, and was due to be completed after his World Cup campaign with Brazil.

United then withdrew, citing medical concerns, amid suggestions they preferred to target Roma midfielder Manu Kone. Atalanta sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli said the club were stunned by the turnaround and maintained there is nothing physically wrong with the midfielder. He also said the club would secure him to fresh terms.

The new deal brings an improved salary. Sportitalia reports €3.5m per season plus performance-related bonuses, with no release clause.

The 27-year-old arrived from Salernitana in summer 2022 and his previous contract was set to expire at the end of the season.

Gazzetta dello Sport suggests the medical issue centred on his right knee following meniscus clean-up surgery in August 2025.

He still played 3,169 minutes in all competitions.
