Manchester United have been searching for the perfect midfielder for Ruben Amorim’s system for sometime now.
Carlos Baleba was identified by the United head coach as the perfect addition, but Brighton’s valuation meant a deal never materialised.
Now that his form has taken a nosedive, the likes of Adam Wharton, and Elliot Anderson have overtaken him on the list of United’s targets.
However, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest have slapped gigantic price tags on their heads, which makes a deal complicated for now.
INEOS might be more open to low-cost options, which explains recent links with Joao Gomes, Conor Gallagher, and Ruben Neves.
The Peoples Person recently spoke of the possibility of long-term target Ederson finally leaving Atalanta, with the Brazilian set to cost around €30 million to €40 million as per his agent.
Now, as per Trivela, the Red Devils are all set to reignite talks with the 26-year-old’s camp. The report adds that both sides have been in constant contact, which indicates a deal will not be difficult to agree.
“It seems that midfielder Éderson, formerly of Fortaleza, Cruzeiro and Corinthians, is living the last days of his long and victorious spell at Atalanta. His departure today is much more a question of “when” than “if”.
“As reported by Trivela, the player’s staff is in contact with interested clubs and is working on some possibilities for the midfielder, already thinking about the next transfer window in January, mid-season in Europe.
“Atalanta, for its part, has already indicated that it is willing to release the player, but the desire is to have him at least until the end of the 2025/26 season. Therefore, the club insisted on receiving at least 50 million euros.
“All this makes Éderson’s departure in January unlikely. The idea is that the player’s sale will only be negotiated at the end of the season in Europe. His price should fall by then.
“With Éderson’s imminent departure, Manchester United has become a likely destination for the 26-year-old Brazilian. The English club is monitoring the player and maintains frequent contact with his staff. Trivela has heard that there is an expectation that talks between the club and the player will resume soon.”
The 20-time English league champions had already agreed on personal terms with the Brazil international last summer, but the Bergamo-based side refused to let him leave.
Ederson was a revelation in the Serie A last season, figuring in the 96th percentile for accurate long balls and in the 94th percentile for chance creation.
Not only that but he registered in the 99th percentile for duels won and recoveries (via fotmob). The perfect amalgamation of silk and steel, just what Amorim’s needs in the middle of the park.
INEOS seem to be focussing on Premier League-proven players at the moment, but his price makes him a steal. Hopefully, the club pounce before Juventus can make a move.
