Edílson recalls Flamengo feud with Petkovic over the 10 shirt | OneFootball

Edílson has revisited his rivalry with Dejan Petkovic at Flamengo, saying it began with a tussle for the 10 shirt he says was guaranteed in his contract. He also says the pair have since settled their differences.

"I had a few fights in football out of vanity. Today, thank God, I have resolved them all. With Pet it was pure vanity. I wanted to wear the 10 shirt, my contract said it had to be mine, but he already had it. I understood he was Flamengo's main player and taking it would cause a huge problem. This has happened at Corinthians now with Memphis and Garro, you can see Garro's performance dropped a lot," he told GE.

"After talking to the Flamengo president I saw there was no need to take the 10 off Pet, but I would say, you have the 10 because I want to. In training there was Pet's team and Edílson's team, and we both wanted penalties. It was a huge fight, but on the pitch we got on well."

In early 2025 Corinthians reassigned the 10 from Rodrigo Garro to Memphis Depay due to a contractual clause. Garro switched to 8 and later said he did not like the change. Edílson attended the handover, and his view on Garro's dip is a personal assessment.

Edílson and Petkovic played together at Flamengo in 2000 and 2001, winning the Copa dos Campeões and the 2001 Carioca. On 27 May 2001 they beat Vasco 3-1, Edílson scored twice then won the foul that Petkovic converted on 43 minutes of the second half.
