Edin Terzic appointed Athletic Bilbao head coach from next season on deal to 2028 | OneFootball

Athletic Bilbao have confirmed Edin Terzic as their new head coach from next season, the German signing a two-year deal through to 2028 and taking charge this summer.

The club said in a statement on Tuesday that the former Borussia Dortmund boss succeeds Ernesto Valverde.

Terzic led Dortmund to the 2024 Champions League final, where they lost 2-0 to Real. He arrives with a strong reputation for developing players and an attacking, modern approach aligned with Athletic’s locally focused identity.

Across two seasons in charge at Dortmund, his side suffered only 21 defeats in 96 matches in all competitions. The appointment signals a desire for renewal as Athletic look to progress domestically and in Europe.

For Terzic, it is a first assignment as a head coach abroad, having previously worked as an assistant at West Ham and Besiktas.
