Newly appointed technical director, Edu Gasper, has wasted no time dipping into the Brazilian market and using his contacts to prop up Arsenal’s dreadful transfer window. The former invincible was thought to using the Copa America as a scouting mission whilst acting as Brazil’s general coordinator and as soon as he took up his post, he arranged to meet with Everton Soares representatives. This allegedly happened on Monday and the initial impression was said to be positive.
UOL and GloboEsporte stated that the early negotiations began while Soares was at the Copa America and Edu was able to feed information about the player back to the club. If this transfer takes place, Arsenal will get a lot of bang for their buck because the winger made quite an impact in Brazil’s tournament win.
Everton Soares is the winner of the Golden Boot award with three goals in the Copa America 2019, but more importantly he was named the Man of the Match for his stunning performance in Brazil’s 3-1 win over Peru in the final.
It’s said that Manchester United, AC Milan and Atletico Madrid are also interested in the player having seen his stock rise sharply based on recent displays, but Arsenal are said to be very much top of the list for the 23-year-old’s services, because of its Brazilian connection in Edu and newcomer Gabriel Martinelli.
Everton Soares is a quick thinking, athletic, perfectly balanced attacking winger and if Arsenal can snap him up for a reported fee of €20m, then all the talk concerning Wilfred Zaha will finally bite the dust.
I don’t want to put pressure on the lad or jump the gun, but the last time I saw a player with his technique was when Thierry Henry arrived at Arsenal.
That generous comparison is based on the concentrated focus that the Frenchman used to employ in his game and it’s evident in the young Brazilian, which is desperately exciting.
Whilst Edu is looking for new additions, how about AC Milan’s Lucas Paquetá (21) who is a phenomenal midfield prospect and just happens to be Brazilian.
