Edu joins Levski Sofia a week after Nottingham Forest contract terminated | OneFootball

Edu has joined Bulgarian champions Levski Sofia a week after his Nottingham Forest contract was terminated.

The Athletic reported last week that Forest ended his deal, and in March it first revealed he was set to leave after missing matches since the previous month.

He joined Forest in July 2025 following five years at Arsenal, including two as sporting director after a spell as technical director. At Forest his remit spanned Olympiacos and Rio Ave within Evangelos Marinakis’s football group.

Levski won the league last season, halting rivals Ludogorets’ world record streak of 14 successive titles. On Monday, the club installed a new five-person board that includes Edu. It did not specify his exact role, and the board will elect a chairman and an executive director at its next meeting.

Edu has not been seen at the City Ground since early in the year, his last home match was in February against Liverpool. He had effectively not been working for Forest since spring.

His Forest appointment was intended to shape recruitment, performance, squad strategy and player development. It did not take hold, and he was not involved in the July hiring of head coach Oliver Glasner. The club have no plans to replace him.
