Speaking to L’Équipe after scoring in France U21’s 3-0 win over North Macedonia, Eduardo Camavinga inevitably discussed his transfer to Real Madrid from Rennes in the final days of the summer transfer window.
On how he has felt the last few days
Calm, with everything that’s happened and my transfer to Real Madrid. Things happened quite quickly, right before the end of the window. There’s a lot of joy and pride. My friends teased me and are happy for me. It’s a dream, every player would like to play for Real Madrid and I’m also happy to be with the U21 team and see the guys again. It’s great to have won.
On whether the transfer gives him a new status
That’s not something I should get into my head. Once you’re called up, you have to give it your all no matter what club you are from. It’s not because I’ve signed for Real that I have a higher status. I have to bring my experience to the table with the U21, and it will be the same with Real Madrid as it was at Rennes. I feel like a leader in this U21 team as I’ve been here a while, and I know all of the players, which helps on and off the pitch.
On whether he rode on a wave of enthusiasm in the wake of his transfer
With what’s happened, it’s true that I was happy. What’s more, I’ve scored my first goal with the U21 which makes me even happier. Hopefully I can do the same on Monday against the Faroe Islands.
