Egypt will not be allowed to display their Africa Cup of Nations stars on their shirts at the 2026 World Cup after FIFA reiterated that only world titles may be shown.

According to The Sun, Mohamed Salah's side have altered their kit on FIFA's instruction ahead of Monday's opener against Belgium at 21:00. The stars above the crest will be absent for the tournament.

The Pharaohs hold a record seven continental crowns, but that haul cannot be represented on their shirts during the competition. They also played without stars at the 2018 finals.

The only exception recognised by FIFA concerns Uruguay, who wear four stars despite two World Cups. The extra two mark Olympic titles in 1924 and 1928, when the tournament was organised by FIFA and considered the global benchmark.

Egypt have also changed their shirt lettering, with gold typography replaced by white at FIFA's request for better television legibility.
