Eintracht Frankfurt sign Lilian Brassier on contract to 2031 | OneFootball

Eintracht Frankfurt have completed the signing of French defender Lilian Brassier from Rennes, adding a left-footed centre-back on a contract running to 2031. According to Sky Germany, Frankfurt will pay an initial €8.5m, with potential bonuses.

The deal had been in the works for several days, but talks with Rennes overran and he could not arrive before the opening weekend. Frankfurt have moved to strengthen after another bruising start.

Adi Hütter’s side drew 3-3 at Union Berlin on Saturday. Younes Ebnoutalib’s hat-trick put them 3-1 up before the hosts hit back, exposing familiar frailties that the striker’s display could not mask.

Frankfurt conceded all three goals from set plays and increasingly struggled against direct pressure. Those issues echoed worries that had surfaced during preseason, with the back line still being rebuilt.

Young summer signing Otávio endured an uneven preseason and Nnamdi Collins has faced injury problems. The club targeted another experienced defender, and Brassier fits that brief.

His arrival follows Arthur Theate’s move to Bologna. A left-footer who can play centrally or on the left, Brassier is expected to contest the left centre-back role alongside captain Robin Koch, and could cover left-back for debutant Keita Kosugi.

Brassier, a Rennes academy graduate, has 161 Ligue 1 appearances. He had a 2019/20 loan at Valenciennes, then joined Brest and later Marseille before returning to Rennes in January 2025. He made 27 league outings last season as Rennes finished sixth to reach the Europa League, departing with 41 senior appearances for his formative club, and this is his first move outside France.
