Spurs know a win will guarantee a last-16 spot

Tottenham again look to the Champions League for potential respite this week as they take on Eintracht Frankfurt with a top-eight finish up for grabs.

A commanding 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund last week means Spurs have it in their own hands to avoid a play-off game and secure a knockout stage spot.

With their Premier League form miserable, Spurs could do without two more games in a February which already looks extremely difficult.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Tottenham team news

Frankfurt will be without five players for the visit of Spurs, with Elias Baum, Jonathan Burkardt, Michy Batshuayi, Timothy Chandler and Younes Ebnoutalib all struggling with injuries.

Spurs are in worse shape and could be without 10 players for the trip to Germany.

Cristian Romero and Pedro Porro were withdrawn early during the 2-2 draw at Burnley to spark fitness concerns. Thomas Frank moves to allay those fears after the game, but two 90-minute men being forced off will have raised alarms.

Frank will be desperate for Joao Palhinha to return, having no missed three games through injury, as Conor Gallagher is not eligible to play in the Champions League. If Palhinha is not fit, then Pape Matar Sarr or Archie Gray will come in.

Elsewhere, Lucas Bergvall, Ben Davies, Rodrigo Bentancur, Richarlison, Mohammed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison miss out.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Tottenham prediction

Who knows which Tottenham side will turn up in Germany. A command win over Borussia Dortmund last week came in the middle of two miserable performances in thee Premier League, in defeat to West Ham and then snatching a last-gasp draw at Burnley

Spurs clearly do perform better in Europe, and sit in fifth heading into the final round, knowing a fifth win in eight games will secure passage straight into the last-16 stage.

Frankfurt have been elminated, so have nothing to play for, and fell to a miserable defeat at homee to Hoffenheim at the weekend. They have bigger fish to fry in the Bundesliga, having dropped to eighth, which could play into Spurs’ hands.
