Eintracht Frankfurt working on new loan for Arnaud Kalimuendo | OneFootball

Eintracht Frankfurt are reportedly working on a late-window return for Nottingham Forest striker Arnaud Kalimuendo, with negotiations over a second loan spell said to be gathering pace. According to Sport Bild, Frankfurt hope to complete a deal for the 24-year-old before the transfer deadline. Discussions with Nottingham Forest over another temporary move are described as advanced.

Kalimuendo’s situation in England appears conducive to another departure. The France youth international and Olympic representative was not included in Nottingham Forest’s squad for Saturday’s 2-2 draw away at Liverpool. A move would bring Kalimuendo back to familiar surroundings only a few months after the conclusion of his first spell in Hessen.

Get German Football News reported on the structure of Kalimuendo’s original Frankfurt move in January, when Eintracht secured the striker from Forest on a six-month loan. The agreement contained a purchase option reportedly worth approximately €27m.

Frankfurt revisit known attacking option

Kalimuendo quickly established himself as a useful component of Frankfurt’s attack following his winter arrival. The former Paris Saint-Germain academy man ultimately scored six goals across 19 Bundesliga appearances during the second half of the 2025/26 campaign. His early performances were sufficiently encouraging for Frankfurt to begin seriously considering a permanent deal only weeks into the loan.

GGFN reported in February that Eintracht were evaluating whether to activate the €27m purchase option after Kalimuendo made an immediate impact in Germany. The attacker scored against Werder Bremen and Hoffenheim during his opening weeks before briefly suffering a shoulder injury. He returned quickly and subsequently found the back of the net against Bayern Munich as his case for a permanent stay continued to strengthen.

Frankfurt nevertheless ultimately elected not to make the substantial permanent investment required to keep Kalimuendo beyond the end of the season. A renewed loan would provide a significantly different financial route toward bringing back a player already familiar with the squad, club and Bundesliga.

Kalimuendo return remained a possibility

The prospect of Kalimuendo returning to Frankfurt never disappeared entirely. Get German Football News noted in our 2026/27 Eintracht Frankfurt tactical preview that another loan for the Forest striker remained conceivable even after his first temporary spell ended. Frankfurt enter the new Bundesliga campaign with Jonathan Burkardt established among their attacking options and Younes Ebnoutalib also pushing for minutes.

Kalimuendo would nevertheless provide another proven central attacking option. His previous spell also removes much of the uncertainty normally associated with a late-window arrival. The remaining issue is whether Frankfurt and Forest can reach acceptable terms before today’s deadline.

With Kalimuendo omitted from Forest’s weekend squad and negotiations reportedly intensifying, the possibility of the French striker beginning a second spell at the Waldstadion is once again becoming increasingly concrete.
