After four games without a win in all competitions, Eintracht Frankfurt returned to winning ways in the Bundesliga on Saturday, beating St. Pauli 2-0.
Jonathan Burkardt, who scored both goals, highlighted the importance of the victory after the game.
“We’re very relieved to have won, kept a clean sheet and played well. We stood together defensively, which is the way it should be. We deserved the win today," he said.
Much to the satisfaction of head coach Dino Toppmöller, Eintracht not only secured the win but also recorded their first clean sheet in the league this season.
“We wanted to impart energy from the dugout and were absolutely determined to win this one. It was a hard-fought win. We achieved what we set out to do. We were the better team and we finally managed to keep a clean sheet again, which was incredibly important. We scored two at the other end, so we can all go home satisfied," Toppmöller said.
The victory leaves Eintracht sixth in the Bundesliga table, while St. Pauli remain 14th after suffering their fifth consecutive defeat.
