El Karouani ‘to stake claim’ for Benfica starting berth under Marco Silva | OneFootball

Record reports that El Karouani is moving up Marco Silva’s plans at Benfica, using the international break to speed his adaptation. The Morocco international left-back has been working more individually at Seixal.

With a reduced squad, Silva has focused on specific tactical behaviours and closely monitored positions with heavier competition. Left-back is one, with El Karouani assessed alongside Samuel Dahl, the current starter.

The 25-year-old arrived in the final days of the window and fits the profile sought for the left flank. Silva sees attacking qualities that could add new options for Benfica.

His adaptation has been swift. He debuted soon after signing, then started the 2-0 win at Milan’s San Siro, supplying an assist. He has also featured against Moreirense for 12 minutes and Porto for five.

Progress remains gradual, yet he is gaining ground and there is an expectation he could claim the role sooner rather than later. This break offers a key chance to absorb the manager’s ideas.
