Elche’s night unravelled in bursts, their defence and attack both brittle as Real Sociedad punished errors and pace. A costly backpass, disallowed respite and a late concession framed a defeat in which André Silva still found a lifeline.
AS notes a mixed night across the XI. Iñaki Peña was not under siege, yet the first flew in beyond his reach, the second caught him out after Neto’s unexpected error, then he was exposed again late on. He did spark the 2-1 with a long kick.
Petrot toiled at right wing-back in Rubén Sarabia’s set-up. Chust was burned by Gonçalo Guedes for 1-0, then steadied, but he also had to cover John, and was involved when Marín’s fine 3-1 was ruled offside. Affengruber was booked on minute 6, will miss Osasuna through suspension, and lost out late as La Real sealed it. John, again at left wing-back, was beaten for the opener and could not close Sucic’s two efforts before being withdrawn.
Germán Valera grew into it, brighter once Pedrosa arrived, and was denied an equaliser by Caleta-Car. Febas returned deeper, struggled and saw yellow before the break, but found freedom and threatened after Aguado came on. Diang was Elche’s liveliest before tiring, almost scoring with a backheel.
André Silva scored against his former club, first denied by Remiro from Álvaro’s pass, then drilling across goal to make it 2-1. He later chased a 2-2 after a tangle with Caleta-Car that Real contested, only for Remiro to save again. Álvaro led the line superbly, assisting and testing Remiro from range, while Neto’s glaring error prompted an early change. From the bench, Aguado injected intensity, Pedrosa lifted Valera, Cepeda ran without end product, and Bigas marked his return from injury.
