Rafa Mir has not been suspended after allegations he used racist language towards Espanyol defender Omar el-Hilali during Elche’s 2-2 draw on Sunday.

On Wednesday the Spanish football federation’s disciplinary commission issued no immediate sanction and announced it had opened a confidential inquiry to establish the circumstances and, if appropriate, any punishments.

The referee, Iosu Galech Apezteguia, recorded in his report an allegation that Mir told El-Hilali he had come on a boat in the 78th minute. He noted no member of the officiating team heard it, then triggered the anti-racism protocol and paused play for three minutes. Mir, 28, completed the game and scored a late equaliser.

Mir denies the allegation in full. Barring surprises, he will be involved at Villarreal on Sunday, kick-off 14:00.

The forward is on loan at Elche from Sevilla this season.
