It was a magnificent seven for Celtic FC Women on Sunday afternoon as the Ghirls ran out 7-1 winners against Motherwell.

The result puts the Hoops second in the SWPL table, just three points behidn Glasgow City, who they will face this coming Sunday.

And speaking to Celtic TV after the game, Elena Sadiku praised her side's performance throughout the 90 minutes against Motherwell.

She said: “I was really pleased with the performance from start to finish. We have been talking about trying to be more consistent from the first minute to the last.

‘I think we really showed that today, and we were totally dominant for 90 minutes.’

“What was also very important to see was how well the players who started and also finished the game did.

“We kept the mentality of being ruthless throughout. We weren’t just happy, we wanted to continue and show our strengths, and we did that for the full game.

“What we showcased, is something that we want to continue to do. Sometimes you lose momentum, but even with that we were still really good.

“We just kept doing what we are good at, and that is something we want to continue into next weekend as well.”

Celtic have one more fixture before the first international break of this season, and it's a big one as the Ghirls welcoming Glasgow City to New Douglas Park on Sunday (KO: 4:10pm)

Following on from the 7-1 win against Motherwell, Elena Sadiku is hopeful that her side can build on that performance and admits she is excited for the week ahead.

“Our preparations leading into games has been good,” she said, "and that needs to continue going into next week.

“We need to make sure that next week is about keeping the momentum, keeping the quality that we have. We want to showcase that we are a great team.

“We want to show what we want to do this season. So I’ve been really happy with our reaction, and just really excited for the next week now!”
