Elland Road’s redevelopment is gathering pace, with major works around the West and North Stands as Leeds United push on with a capacity increase from 37,645 to 53,000.
The club said in a statement that the project, which began last month after the season ended, marks a significant moment in the club’s history and is expected to be completed in 2030.
Demolition around the West Stand is under way, including removal of the Banqueting Suite and the ticket office, and the floodlights behind the stand have already come down.
Work on the West Stand is expected to be finished in 2028, lifting its capacity from 8,000 to 17,750. The North Stand’s expansion is set to take a further two years, increasing from a maximum of 10,414 to 15,300, and a temporary structure behind it for corporate use is now taking shape.
Inside the ground, work on the pitch and dugouts is due to be ready for next season. Club great Gary McAllister has welcomed the upgrade, saying the stadium had looked tired and needed a makeover. Leeds United are next expected to host RB Leipzig in a pre-season friendly on the weekend of August 8/9.
