United legends Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt are both in agreement that Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson is the right type of player to help Ruben Amorim’s side take the next step forward.
United are on the hunt for midfield reinforcements, with Anderson one of their top targets.
He has emerged as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League over the past few months and has played a key role in the success Forest enjoyed last season under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Despite Forest’s results suffering a slight dip this term, Anderson’s form has not declined. He leads all other midfielders in the top flight for passes completed, forward passes, passes to the final third, defensive duels won, accurate crosses and touches.
He is an all-action midfielder whose outstanding displays have seen him earn a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England plans.
United are not the only club on the hunt for Anderson’s signature. He is also believed to be on the radar of Newcastle, Arsenal and Manchester City.
A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Anderson would welcome the opportunity to move to United. Forest value him at a mega £100m sum.
As speculation over the 23-year-old rumbles on, Scholes and Butt have insisted that the midfielder is what United need at the moment.
Scholes said on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, “Elliot Anderson is a really good player. Look, I think they need a bit more than Anderson to get to where they want to be, to challenging, but, no, I think he’s a really good player.”
“When he was at Newcastle I thought he was a really good player. I thought he was more of an attacking midfielder and I didn’t see him in this role that he’s playing for England as a number six.”
“But he looks a really good player, I think he’s athletic enough as well and, yeah, I think he would be a really good signing but we’ll see.”
Butt added “He’s a good player. I think it’s what the board and the manager wants from a player.”
“To get Manchester United to where they want to be, they need a lot more than just that.”
“But is he better than the ones they’ve got in now? That’s what it always should be, you should always get players that are better than what you’ve got in the building.”
“Looking at what he’s doing now, for me, he looks like potentially a top, top player.”
