Bayern have made an unbeaten start to the 2026-27 campaign, beginning with a 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the DFL-Supercup. The Bavarians then claimed commanding victories over Stuttgart and Osnabrück in the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal respectively before they were held to a frustrating goalless draw in last Saturday’s away meeting with Schalke 04. The failure to break down Schalke’s stubborn resistance ended a run of 12 consecutive head-to-head victories.

Vincent Kompany’s charges returned to winning ways in their first Champions League outing of the new season against Norwegian outfit Bodø/Glimt. Jamal Musiala, Harry Kane and Alphonso Davies all got on the scoresheet before Michael Olise netted a late brace in an emphatic 5-0 win at the Allianz Arena. 

Bayern will now head on their travels for an away meeting with newly-promoted Elversberg, who are their 57th opponents in the Bundesliga. The Bavarians can take confidence from the fact they have recorded at least one victory against the 56 teams they have faced in their Bundesliga history.

Bayern attacker Serge Gnabry is on the verge of returning from an adductor injury, although it remains to be seen whether he makes Sunday’s squad or is given another week to build up his fitness.
