Yankuba Minteh has reportedly called his agent for an emergency meeting on Friday evening.
A reputable source on X (formerly Twitter) shared the update in question, following Liverpool’s rejected £50m bid for the Gambia international this week.
The Merseysiders are looking to bolster the forward line with a minimum of two new options, with Bradley Barcola in line to be the club’s marquee signing of the window.
To be clear, we’re big fans of Yankuba Minteh and are excited about the prospect of what he could bring to this Andoni Iraola side.
However, we’re simultaneously confused about Liverpool’s strategy in the market, given that they apparently walked away from negotiations with PSG for Ibrahim Mbaye based on the 18-year-old’s asking price.

That said, if we’re to accept reports indicating that the Ligue 1 champions would be prepared to talk seriously about a deal in the £40m-50m bracket for the Senegal international, we can’t understand why Liverpool are baulking at such figures.
There’s now an expectation that the Reds will come back to the negotiating table with Brighton with an improved proposal for Minteh, which would then exceed their £50m rejected bid.
We do really like the Seagulls star, but we’re of the mind that Mbaye has a higher ceiling than his Premier League counterpart.
So, we can’t help but wonder whether this is an intentional tactic from the club to try and force PSG to lower their demands for their 18-year-old right-sided winger.
Just because Mbaye might have the higher ceiling doesn’t mean there wouldn’t be any value in signing Brighton’s exciting No.11.
Certainly, if Liverpool are indeed looking for facilitators on the flanks who can provide high-quality service to Alexander Isak, Minteh fits the bill.
He’s absolutely rapid, clocking an average top speed of 36.2km/h in the Premier League per 90, according to Fotmob. Not to mention the fact that he’s a bona fide creator in Fabian Hurzeler’s side.
We appreciate these aren’t elite-level numbers, but we’re happy to let a head coach renowned for top-notch talent development, Andoni Iraola, earn his keep by demonstrating his heralded coaching ability.
Theoretically, either of Ibrahim Mbaye or Yankuba Minteh should benefit tremendously under the Basque’s tutelage.
