Emiliano Martinez appears to be back on the transfer menu for Manchester United, given one report currently doing the rounds.
Manchester United looked to overhaul their goalkeeping department last summer, having lost faith in Andre Onana, while Altay Bayindir’s quality was increasingly doubted.
A number of top goalkeepers were linked with a move to M16, yet it ultimately became a two‑horse race between Senne Lammens and Martinez as to whom INEOS would sign.
In the end, Lammens arrived on deadline day, leaving Martinez to remain at Villa Park. The Belgian has since proven a brilliant addition for the Red Devils, with the team looking far more assured when he is between the posts.
Martinez, meanwhile, has continued to shine at Villa despite the transfer heartbreak. His performances have remained consistently strong, yet surprisingly, he has still been linked with a move away from the Midlands.
Pete O’Rourke, via Football Insider, has dropped some intriguing news that the Old Trafford faithful will relish. He reports:
“Sources have told Football Insider that United are keeping tabs on Martinez right now as he potentially prepares to leave Villa, even though they are happy with Senne Lammens’ progress.”
O’Rourke goes on to reveal:
“There is a growing feeling that Villa could cash in on Martinez in the next week.”
However, he warns that if the 20‑time English champions hesitate, they risk losing out on the world‑class Premier League star to Inter Milan.
While United appear to have restored confidence in their goalkeeping department with “Baby Courtois”, that should not prevent them from pursuing Martinez.
Lammens has shown he is a keeper for both the present and the future, but what happens if injury strikes?
Bayindir has yet to prove himself a reliable back‑up, and Martinez could provide exactly that.
Beyond his quality, the ex‑Arsenal man would also serve as the perfect mentor for Lammens, ensuring Manchester United’s goalkeeping unit remains strong and secure.
