Emiliano Martinez joins Chelsea in €8.8m move from Aston Villa | OneFootball

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa for €8.8m, with the 32-year-old agreeing a three-year deal on Sunday.

The move comes a little over a month after Argentina lost the World Cup final 1-0 to Spain after extra time.

Capped 67 times and a World Cup winner, Martinez had been close to joining Juventus earlier in the summer, and was pushed towards the exit by Aston Villa’s signing of Zion Suzuki.

He becomes the sixth goalkeeper under contract with Chelsea’s first team, alongside Robert Sanchez, Mike Penders, Gabriel Slonina and Teddy Sharman-Lowe.

Filip Jorgensen is also on the books, although he is on loan at Strasbourg this season.
