Emmanuel Desplats, formerly of Sochaux and Dijon, has been chosen to succeed Hélène Schrub as Metz chief executive, with the club returning to Ligue 2 after one season in the top flight.
The club said in a statement on Monday that Desplats will take the role, with Schrub overseeing a handover until 31 July so he can fully assume duties from the first of August.
Desplats held the same position at Dijon FCO from January 2021 to October 2024. Before that he spent more than 20 years at FC Sochaux-Montbéliard, finishing as deputy executive director.
Schrub has served as chief executive since 2016 and announced her departure in mid May after around 20 years at the club.
An interim arrangement until September had even been considered if the process dragged.
Desplats is a trained lawyer. While at Dijon in 2024, he was fined €10,000 for involvement in a wide-ranging case over transfer commissions paid to unlicensed agents at the Fédération française de football (FFF). He had worked on a transfer he knew was led by an unlicensed agent.
