Emmanuel Macron greeted and spoke with Lens and Nice players on the Stade de France pitch before the Coupe de France final on Friday.

According to L'Équipe, the President reinstated a pre-match custom that had been shelved in recent years.

The protocol had been dropped to limit the loud booing that had accompanied his previous visits to the Saint-Denis stadium.

There were still a few jeers this time, yet his arrival on the turf went largely unnoticed by many supporters and observers.

The crowd had just taken in a spectacular pre-match ceremony.
