Harry Kane isn’t even close to thinking about hanging up his soccer cleats. The 33-year-old continues to perform at the absolute top level with FC Bayern and, by his own account, is currently feeling so good that the possibility of retiring isn’t even on his mind. Instead, the Englishman looks to some of the greatest soccer players in history for inspiration.

In an interview with TNT Sports, Kane was asked if he had already given any thought to when the right time for retirement might be. His answer was unequivocal.

“No. At this stage of my career, I’m mainly trying to enjoy these moments. I feel so good right now that I’m more focused on how I can maintain this form for as long as possible,” explained the Bayern striker.

After all, Kane still has some major goals in sight. Above all, winning the Champions League with Bayern Munich is still missing from his now extensive collection of titles. The striker is also still waiting for a major triumph with the English national team.

“There are still things I want to win at the club level. The same goes for the national team. That’s why, for me, it’s about savoring this moment for as long as possible,” Kane emphasized.

Messi, Ronaldo, and Modric are showing Kane the way

Rather than thinking about retirement, Kane is more concerned with the question of how he can maintain his current level of performance for as long as possible. “I ask myself how I can make sure it stays this way forever. As we know, that won’t be the case,” the Englishman explained.

In recent years, several world-class stars have proven that it’s possible to perform at the highest level even at an advanced age in soccer. Three names in particular serve as inspiration for Kane.

“But when I see players like Messi, Ronaldo, and Luka Modrić, who play into their late thirties or even their forties, it motivates me to achieve that as well.”

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, in particular, have shown over many years how long exceptional performances can be sustained with the right level of fitness. Luka Modrić is also an example for Kane that, in modern soccer, age does not necessarily mean the end of a career at the highest level.

Good news for FC Bayern

Kane’s statements are likely to be very welcome news for FC Bayern officials. After all, both sides are currently working on extending his contract, which runs through 2027.

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen had recently hinted that Kane is by no means planning his future on a short-term basis. The Bayern boss explained that the striker and his entourage are generally expecting a longer career.

Kane himself also recently made it clear that while the contract currently being negotiated will be an important one for him, it is by no means necessarily the last of his career.

His on-field performances offer little reason to expect an early retirement anyway. Last season, the 33-year-old scored a total of 73 goals for FC Bayern and the English national team, marking the highest-scoring season of his career.

Kane now wants to maintain this exceptional level of performance for as long as possible. If he succeeds as well as his role models Messi, Ronaldo, and Modrić, “Eternal Harry” could remain a fixture for soccer fans—and possibly for FC Bayern as well—for many years to come.
