Mateus Mane has become the focus of an international tussle, with England and Portugal vying for the Wolves prospect. His rapid rise has arrived after a handful of months in the first team.

BBC Sport has reported that Portugal manager Roberto Martinez is taking a proactive role in courting the forward, with federation president Pedro Proenca also involved.

Born in Barreiro, Portugal, Mane moved to England at the age of eight. His breakthrough has been one of the few bright spots in a largely difficult season for Wolves.

England are keen to keep him in their pathway. Mane has already played for England Under-18s, so he knows the environment and could progress further.

A decision on his international future may not be the only call he faces. There has been recent speculation over summer offers, though he could yet stay at Wolves to develop in the Championship.
