England interim manager Lee Carsley has named his first squad ahead of the Three Lions’ Nations League fixtures in September.

The 50-year-old, who is still Under 21 boss, has handed a first call up to four players with Chelsea winger Noni Madueke, Newcastle full back Tino Livramento and Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White named in the squad, as well as Lille’s Angel Gomes, who has flourished in Ligue 1 after leaving Manchester United in 2020.

All four players worked with Carsley at underage level, as did defenders Levi Colwill and Rico Lewis, who will look to add to their one caps to date next month.

There is recalls for Jack Grealish, who was surprisingly left out of the EURO 2024 squad, and Harry Maguire, who missed out through injury.

There is no place, however, for veteran Kyle Walker, a mainstay of the national team for a decade, or Ivan Toney, who has yet to feature for Brentford this season amid transfer speculation.

Ben White continues his exile from England duty, while Marcus Rashford misses out once again.

Kieran Trippier is absent having announced his retirement from international football earlier on Thursday.

England will travel to Dublin to face Ireland (for whom Carsley was heavily linked with, and also played for) on September 6 before taking on Finland at Wembley three days later.
