Enith Salón has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament with meniscus damage in her knee, confirmed on Tuesday by Servette and the goalkeeper. Spain team-mates have rallied around the World Cup winner.

The player said in a post that she felt everything stop last Friday, and that subsequent tests confirmed an ACL and meniscus tear.

Messages poured in from Misa Rodríguez, Cata Coll and Alba Redondo, among many others. Edna Imade, Ainhoa Alguacil, Asun Martínez, Esther González, fellow keepers Adriana Nancares and Noelia Ramos, and injury-hit peers Inma Gabarro and Teresa Abelleira also sent support.

Salón thanked everyone for their messages, admitting these are very tough and delicate moments. She added she is sure she will return, and will now back the team in the two finals that remain.

She faces a prolonged absence and has the club’s full backing during rehabilitation. Servette are bidding to lift the Super League title against Young Boys, having won the cup in March, and Salón was in Spain’s March squad.
