Enzo Barrenechea is sidelined after left knee surgery but is celebrating the birth of his first child, according to Glorioso 1904.

The Benfica midfielder underwent arthroscopy on his left knee last Tuesday to treat a sprain and is not expected back until mid November.

The Argentine shared photos with his wife, Julieta Sieracki, marking their son's arrival on Friday, 25 September. Images showed him on crutches.

Barrenechea missed the clássico against Porto, which ended in a 3-1 defeat for Marco Silva's side.

Before that game there was uncertainty over his availability, with plans for him to travel for further assessments, while the rest of the squad were ready.

Silva has roughly three weeks to weigh up internal options to cover the role until Barrenechea returns, with the number 5 set to be absent for a spell.
