Enzo’s special skill which could mean he matches Mount and Lampard with Chelsea record this season

The Athletic have honed in on Enzo Fernandez for their big Chelsea story this week, 3 years after his arrival at the club.

It’s been a hectic time overall, but Enzo has come out of it pretty well. Gradually he’s found his feet in the Premier League, made himself a leader of the group, and has started scoring lots of goals.

His numbers on that front has been helped by the injury to Cole Palmer, which put the Argentine on penalties for a while. But he’s still managed 6 non penalty goals in the Premier League.

With 14 games left to play (and Enzo bound to play most, if not all of them), he could easily score four more. Ten non penalty goals would put him alongside Mason Mount and Lampard as the only three midfielders to reach double figures in that stat.

Speaking to Sky Sports this week, Enzo said that Lampard was in “inspiration.”

“I’ve watched a lot of videos of Frank since coming to Chelsea. I’ve seen how he got into those last metres of the pitch and how he got into the box.”

You can really see that in how he plays. He’s been freed up by the formation a little, but as much as anything it’s a question of just having the nose for when things are going to break down and create a chance.

In other news…

The same story had some Frank Lampard quotes about Enzo which have been proved totally correct after watching him for a few years.

Liam Rosenior’s press conference yesterday saw him hit with many Cole Palmer questions – everyone wants to know if the attacking midfielder will start today. He gave some of them pretty short shrift.
