Epi Fernández, a five-time champion with Valencia CF who played for Real Sociedad | OneFootball

The San Sebastián-born player arrived at Valencia CF in the 1940-41 season after his spell at Donostia FC -current Real Sociedad-. Epi was a winger of an era in the legendary ‘electric forward line’, even becoming the second highest assist provider in Valencia CF history with 102 assists in 256 matches.

In his nine seasons as a Valencianista he won five titles: the 1941 Cup, LALIGA 1941-42, LALIGA 1943-44, LALIGA 1946-47 and the 1949 Cup. Afterwards, Epi returned to the txuri-urdin side and finished his professional career in 1955.

‘Electric forward line’ of Valencia CF (1940-41/1945-46)

The 1940s of the last century marked the first glorious era in Valencia CF history. After reaching the elite in the 1930s and with Mestalla as their definitive home, the Valencianista side was more than established in the First Division and the bats began to fly high.

Epi, Amadeo, Mundo, Asensi and Gorostiza formed the ‘electric forward line’, which led Valencia CF from the 1940-41 season until the 1945-46 campaign. During those years, Valencia CF won two league titles and one cup.

The first national title for the Valencianista side was the 1941 Cup. In the final played on June 19th, 1941 at Chamartín, the contribution of the ‘traca’, as the VCF ‘electric forward line’ was also known, was decisive with two goals from Mundo and another from Asensi to seal a 3-1 victory against Espanyol.

The following season, 1941-42, Valencia CF continued their magnificent run by winning their first league title with Mundo as the top scorer of the competition.

Two seasons later, in 1943-44, the Mestalla club achieved their second league title, once again with Mundo as the tournament’s top scorer. In addition, during the years of the ‘electric forward line’, Valencia CF achieved three Cup runners-up finishes.

Epi, Amadeo, Mundo, Asensi and Gorostiza led the first title-winning Valencia CF side and thrilled the, at that time young, Mestalla with their goals.
