Nigeria national team head coach Eric Chelle has played down the altercation between Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman in their Round of 16 victory over Mozambique on Monday.

The Super Eagles thrashed the Mambas 4-0, with Osimhen netting a brace, while Lookman also got on the score sheet and provided two assist to seal progression to the quarter-finals.

However, the emphatic victory was marred by the star forwards' unpleasant exchange of words, with the Galatasaray man seemingly unhappy that the Atalanta talisman didn't pass him the ball, despite being 3-0 up.

When pressed on whether the situation could affect the dressing room harmony, Chelle was cagey, stating that the matter will be resolved internally.

“So, this is a question about my management and what happened in the pitch will stay in the group, I don't need to tell you [media] what happened or what will happen. So, in my management I keep that for myself,” he said.

"Everything that happens in the life of the group will stay in the life of the group, so we will see after we talk with the group.

On his preferred opponent in the quarter-finals, the French-Malian tactician acknowledged the strength of both teams, admitting he can't choose between Algeria and DR Congo.

“Between Algeria and DRC? These two teams play well. DRC is a good team, they're tactically, technically, physically strong. Algeria, technically, their movement is very good, so I don't want to choose,” Chelle added.

"But it will be a great game to watch tomorrow [Tuesday] and for sure the team that will come against us - it will be a great fight.
