According to The Athletic, Erik ten Hag was willing to reintegrate Mason Greenwood (22) into his squad at Manchester United and play the striker before his eventual move to Olympique de Marseille.

The former United forward recently sealed a move to the Stade Vélodrome after being enticed by the prospect of playing under former Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi. Greenwood’s move to OM is set to cost £26.6m. Nevertheless, United hold a sell-on clause of 50% should the Ligue 1 outfit sell the former England U21 international attacker.

The Premier League club made the decision to sell the 22-year-old after the player was charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in October 2022. These charges were later dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in the UK in 2023. With Manchester United unwilling to reintegrate Greenwood into the squad, he was loaned to Getafe.

Before this decision was made though, ten Hag was happy to welcome the forward back into his squad and utilise him. However, the decision was taken out of his hands and the club ultimately chose to go in the other direction with their decision.
