Ernesto Valverde discusses win over Roma: “We were anxious before the first goal.”

Athletic Club Bilbao Ernesto Valverde discussed his side’s win over Roma to advance to the Europa League quarter-finals.

Regarding the match, the Basque coach also had his say, explaining how his team went from the anxiety of the 0-0 to the clarity after the lead that came in the last action of the first half thanks to Nico Williams.

In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Valverde said, “We took to the field, from the first minute, to play our game and, after the red card, Roma took a step back to defend themselves.”

“The goal in the last action of the first half reassured us because we were a bit anxious beforehand,” he added.
