Ernesto Valverde will not take charge of Valencia, nor any club for now. The Txingurri intends to remain away from the dugout after leaving Athletic last summer and has told Braulio Vázquez.
According to AS, the new sporting director has begun contacting out-of-work coaches to gauge willingness to take charge. Valencia are the first La Liga club to part with their coach, giving them a clear run at the free-agent market.
For now, the calls are exploratory, focused on each candidate’s situation, concerns and their view of Valencia’s current squad. Any incoming coach would inherit the present group at least until January.
Vázquez will join the squad in Vitoria tonight, addressing players for the first time in his role at the team hotel. Budget room is tight as the club must cover severance for Ron Gourlay and his four assistants, plus Corberán and his staff. The total is about seven million euros, with payment terms to be negotiated.
Valencia are not rushing the appointment. Óscar Sánchez will lead the team against Alavés and is expected to remain on the bench at Mestalla on Sunday against Real Sociedad.
In recent talks, Kiat Lim, Javier Solís and Vázquez have prioritised finding the right profile over speed. After the Real Sociedad match, the league will pause for three weeks.
