La Liga outfit Espanyol have opened negotiations with Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion, regarding the potential signing of a member of the latter’s backline.

This comes amid the understanding that the brass at the RCDE Stadium have set their sights on the services of Seagulls star Igor.

Stopper Igor is for his part fresh off something of a season to forget in England. Farmed out on loan to West Ham United for the duration of the campaign, the Brazilian saw his move cut short in January, owing to a lack of game time.

From here, Igor was not afforded a single minute of Premier League football by parent club Brighton. The widespread expectation, as a result, is that the 28-year-old will be on the move once more before the summer is out.

And as alluded to above, this week, a new suitor have positioned themselves in the race for his signature. As per a report from market insider Matteo Moretto:

‘Espanyol are negotiating for Igor Julio, from Brighton.’

On the lookout for reinforcements at the heart of defence, the Espanyol board are understood to have earmarked Igor – still appreciated for his fine performances whilst in Italy – as a leading target.
