Real Madrid take on RCD Espanyol in Matchweek 5 of the 2025/26 La Liga season at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday.

The Merengues have maintained a 100% record so far this season, winning five in five across all competitions, and will be gunning for their sixth win tomorrow.

However, Espanyol will not make it easy as the Catalan club themselves have made a solid start to the new campaign.

Edu Exposito warns Real Madrid

Speaking to Radio MARCA, Espanyol star Edu Exposito discussed his team’s fine start to the campaign and used it to serve a warning to Real Madrid ahead of the contest at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Having barely survived the threat of relegation last season, Los Pericos are currently third in the table, with ten points from four games (three wins, one draw).

“We’re very happy with this start we’re having, and I hope it can last for a long time,” explained Edu.

Talking about the trip to the Bernabeu, the midfielder noted: “It’s always motivating, always exciting. And especially if we get off to a good start like this, because our confidence is sky-high right now, and that makes us dangerous, too.”

Looking ahead to the challenges of facing Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid, Exposito had no doubts about Kylian Mbappe being a major threat.

“Mbappe is at a very high level,” he admitted

The Espanyol star also rejected the suggestion that Vinicius Jr.’s dip in form could be good news, saying:

“You’ve tried to catch me with one good and one bad, but I think both are bad, because Vinicius is a phenomenon.”

Exposito also praised Xabi Alonso’s impact in the early months of his stint at Real Madrid, saying:

“The Real Madrid fans are excited. He’s a coach who’s already showing what he’s capable of, and he can be a great coach.”
