Those in the boardroom at La Liga outfit Espanyol have this weekend been afforded some welcome news on the financial front. This comes by way of confirmation that a clause to increase star striker Roberto Fernández’s release clause has been triggered.
Frontman Fernández is for his part fresh off an evening to remember on Saturday…
Afforded a first-ever call-up to the Spanish senior national team after netting six times in seven appearances to open the La Liga season, the 24-year-old yesterday evening secured his La Roja debut.
En route to a 3-1 victory over Czechia in the Nations League, Fernández featured from the off, and saw out the full 90 minutes.
And as alluded to above, significance to the talented goalscorer aside, this also proved a major development for his employers back in Barcelona.
As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, Fernández’s Espanyol contract features a condition which details that his release clause would increase in the case of a first-ever appearance for his country.
Previously sitting at €25 million, the Spaniard’s exit clause has therefore climbed to a new figure of €30 million.
